Teen AI Builders

Understand how modern AI works, use AI tools wisely for school, and write Python code that trains real machine learning models.

6 lessons, about 8 hours, 10-question final quiz

About this course

Teen AI Builders is for secondary school students who want to understand the AI tools everyone is talking about, and start building their own.

Teens learn how AI systems like chatbots actually work, how to use them as a study partner without cheating themselves, and the most important skill of the AI age: thinking critically about what AI tells you. Then they write real Python code in Google Colab, a free tool that runs in the browser, and train two machine learning models: one that classifies fruit from measurements, and one that detects scam text messages, a problem every Kenyan family knows.

The course closes with AI ethics, deepfakes, privacy and a look at AI careers, so teens can make smart choices about their future. It's a strong foundation for the adult Python for AI and Machine Learning Essentials courses.

By the end you will be able to

  • Explain how machine learning and chatbots work, including why they make mistakes
  • Use AI tools honestly and effectively for learning, following school rules
  • Write basic Python: variables, lists, loops, conditions and functions
  • Train and test a machine learning classifier with scikit-learn
  • Build a text classifier that detects scam SMS messages
  • Recognise deepfakes, protect their privacy and think about AI fairness
  • Explore AI careers and plan their next learning steps

What you'll need

A laptop or computer with internet is best (a phone works for reading). A Google account for Google Colab; a parent can help set this up. No coding experience needed.

For parents and guardians

  • You create the account and pay with Mobile Money or card. Your child studies using your login, so we never collect your child's contact details.
  • Lessons are short, with activities away from the screen too. Younger children enjoy it most with a grown-up nearby.
  • Some lessons use free websites such as Teachable Machine, Scratch or Google Colab. We explain each one and when a grown-up should help.
  • When your child passes the final quiz, you type their name and it's printed on their certificate.
